As an authoritative global voice on child rights and equality for girls, Plan International’s United Nations Office in Geneva works to influence those with power and responsibility in order to secure the rights of children.
We do so by working with and strategically advocating to governments, the United Nations bodies and other organisations active in Geneva to ensure that children’s rights and equality for girls are included in key processes and debates taking place at the UN.
Plan International, drawing on our extensive worldwide experience, also uses the tools of the international human rights system to ensure that every country promotes, respects and fulfils the rights of all children, especially girls, and to hold Governments accountable to their commitments. The UN Office in Geneva supports Plan International's offices around the world to engage with UN processes that review the human rights situation in their country. These include the monitoring and reporting processes for the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), as well as the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of the Human Rights Council.
