Chair’s Message

Advisory Body International Affairs (ABIA)

Distinguished and Honourable Chairpersons,

Distinguished and Honourable Delegates,

Colleagues and Friends,

With the launch of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) process in 2013, FIATA understood the importance of private sector input in the SDG process. More specifically, the involvement of the logistics industry which plays a pivotal role in not only moving goods around the world but also uniting member states through the common goal of development through greater connectivity

FIATA established the “Advisory Body International Affairs (ABIA)” to work with international institutions to help provide guidance into policy making which includes contributing to discussions surrounding global agreements on sustainable development and climate change. ABIA’s membership comprises of high level members from FIATA’s Presidency and Extended Board, from different parts of the world, to ensure that diverse view points are considered and discussions are well balanced.

Throughout our work on the SDGs, we have also produced publications which stress the importance of logistics connectivity to be included into the SDGs, citing practical example of logistics infrastructure and policy implementation which resulted in sustainable and economic growth.

Now as the chapter turns to implementation, FIATA looks forward to continuing its contributions. We remain available to discuss any key points with the UN Secretariat, UN Member States, civil societies and any other stakeholders with a view to help facilitate implementation.

Yours sincerely,

Babar Badat

Chairman ABIA
